Summer 2016 Nail Trends by Madeline Poole
Open Shoulder

This trend is HUGE
Open shoulders are all the rage this summer.
Everything from casual tops to elaborate wedding dresses and of course, nails! Bare shoulders made appearances on the runways of countless shows:
Oscar De La Renta, Lanvin, J. Crew, Tanya Taylor, Proenza Schouler, Guy Laroche, Issa, Erdem, and many more.
There were many variations but often times we are seeing this trend with white or soft pastel colors to really pop next to the bare skin.

The next best thing to negative space nails: negative space fashion. When I painted my first ever negative space nail, I thought about it in terms of clothing.
By showing a bit of your neck or a sliver of your tummy or the bottoms of your ankles, you’re incorporating your skin color into the composition of the outfit.
The next logical step is to do the same with nails. The neutrality of your natural nail plate looks gorgeous with these candy colored pastels and adds detail and dimension to the nail design.

PASTELS
Summer 2016 is a world of soft serene blues, periwinkles, mint greens, blush pinks, and lavender. Let’s not forget this year pantone colors of the year:
Rose Quartz, a soft pink and Serenity, a slightly purple tinted baby blue.
Pastels were seen on the runways of Louis Vuitton with bubble gum colored leather, Oscar De La Renta’s baby blue tiered gowns, and Gucci’s array of metallic pastels, mint organza layering and every shade of pale pink. Plus - is there a better way to amplify your summer glow than with a pretty, opaque pastel shade?

An update on the moon manicure and a modern twist on the French, this look is optical and graphic but softened by a beautiful pastel color.
